Chapter 12 - The Cyprus Connection-12

While the domestic criminal trials of Dean, Walter, and Marjorie Prescott concluded swiftly in North Carolina, the international tentacles of the Vanguard Logistics network required a final, decisive sweep to ensure total security.
Two weeks after the state convictions were finalized, Arthur Pendelton and I flew to Zurich, Switzerland, accompanied by a team from the Department of Justice's International Asset Recovery Unit.
Sitting in an elite conference room overlooking the snow-capped Alps, we met with the compliance directors of Credit Suisse Atlantic.
On the mahogany table sat the master ledger files we had recovered from the floor safe in my father’s study—files that detailed the exact Cypriot routing codes used by Richard Crowley and his international partners to launder stolen public health funds.
“Mrs. Miller,” the lead Swiss compliance director said, bowing his head deferentially as he reviewed the certified federal court orders. “The evidence you have provided is undeniable. Under the international anti-racketeering treaties, Credit Suisse has executed a total, permanent freeze on all secondary shell accounts linked to Noraline Holdings and the Crowley family estate.”
He slid a final administrative document across the table.
“A total of $42 million in misdirected capital has been fully recovered and transferred back into the primary accounts of the Miller Sovereign Trust,” the director announced. “The Cypriot accounts have been permanently liquidated, and the shell entities dissolved.”
I looked at the confirmation screen. The financial pipeline that Dean and Vanessa had spent fourteen months trying to steal was now completely eradicated from the global banking system.
“What about Richard Crowley?” I asked calmly.
“Mr. Crowley’s extradition appeal was denied by the Federal Appeals Court yesterday,” Prosecutor Vance spoke up from beside me. “He is currently being transported back to the United States to face trial alongside his daughter for international money laundering, tax evasion, and conspiracy to commit murder.”
I closed my leather notebook, placing my pen inside my coat pocket.
The international network was dead. Every dollar stolen from my father’s life’s work had been brought back to the trust he built for his grandson.
We stepped out of the bank building into the crisp, clean Alpine air. The sun was shining brightly over the lake, reflecting off the snow-covered peaks in brilliant beams of silver and gold.

Arthur looked at me, a profound sense of pride in his eyes. “Your father would be amazed by what you’ve accomplished, Natalie. You didn't just protect Oliver; you completely dismantled an international cartel.”
“My father taught me how to read the small print, Arthur,” I smiled, looking up at the clear blue sky. “When you know how the engine is built, it’s very easy to take it apart.”
