PART 1: The next words made her go cold.

The rich woman stood frozen in the middle of the crowded street.

Her expensive purse hung forgotten from her shoulder.

Her eyes never left the small birthmark on the girl's heel.

The little girl backed away nervously.

"Please don't be angry anymore," she whispered. "I really wasn't stealing."

The woman suddenly dropped to her knees.

People gasped.

A woman dressed in designer clothes, wearing diamonds worth thousands of dollars, was kneeling before a homeless child.

"What is your name?" she asked, her voice shaking.

"Emma."

"Who are your parents?"

Emma looked down.

"I don't know."

The woman's breathing became uneven.

"Who takes care of you?"

"I live with Grandma Rose under the bridge near the river."

Tears instantly flooded the woman's eyes.

Twenty years ago, she had given birth to a baby girl named Emily.

During a terrible flood that forced an evacuation at the hospital, her newborn daughter disappeared.

Despite years of searching and millions of dollars spent, the child was never found.

Her marriage collapsed.

Her husband eventually died from heartbreak.

For two decades she carried that tiny hospital card everywhere she went.

The woman slowly reached toward Emma.

"My name is Victoria Harper."

Emma remained cautious.

Victoria whispered, almost unable to breathe.

"I think… I might be your mother."

Emma stared at her.

Then shook her head.

"No… moms don't lose their children."

The words pierced Victoria's heart harder than any knife ever could.

For the first time in twenty years, she cried openly in front of strangers.

And for the first time in twenty years…

She had found hope... The next words made her go cold.
