Chapter 7 - THE MIAMI INTERCEPTION

-7-

The private aviation terminal at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport hummed with the quiet, exclusive luxury of wealth and evasion. Private jets sat lined up along the wet tarmac, their sleek fuselages reflecting the harsh glare of the Florida sun.

Inside the private VIP lounge, Cynthia Sterling paced across the polished marble floor, her expensive Gucci sunglasses hiding the dark circles under her eyes, her manicured fingers nervously tapping against the screen of her burner phone. She wore a heavy beige trench coat, entirely out of place in the tropical heat, desperate to remain unrecognized by airport security and federal spotters.

"Come on, pick up," Cynthia hissed into the phone, dialing her defense attorney for the fourth time in ten minutes. "Where is the judge's signature? The flight departs in twenty minutes!"

Before the call could connect, the heavy glass doors of the VIP lounge swung open with a sharp, heavy click.

Two towering men in dark suits stepped inside, blocking the only exit. And right behind them walked a tall, broad-shouldered federal marshal holding a freshly printed judicial document bearing the gold seal of the United States District Court.

Cynthia stopped dead in her tracks. Her phone slipped from her fingers, clattering loudly against the marble floor and shattering the screen.

"Cynthia Sterling," the federal marshal announced, his voice booming across the quiet lounge. "You are in direct violation of a federal flight restriction order issued by Judge Katherine Sterling one hour ago. You are not leaving the jurisdiction."

"No! This is a mistake!" Cynthia shrieked, backing away until her spine hit the mahogany reception desk. "My lawyers filed the emergency medical exemption! Judge Miller signed off on it—"

"Judge Miller was recused from this case twenty minutes ago due to an undeclared conflict of interest involving Vincent Vance’s real estate portfolio," a calm, familiar voice echoed from the doorway.

Cynthia whipped her head around.

I stepped into the VIP lounge, wearing a crisp navy blue blazer and sunglasses, my heels clicking rhythmically against the floor. Max Thorne walked a half-step behind me, carrying a heavy leather briefcase stamped with the seal of Zenith Group’s legal department.

"Mariana..." Cynthia whispered, the color draining entirely from her face. She looked like she had just seen a ghost. "What... what are you doing here? How did you find me?"

"Private aviation terminals are notoriously easy to track when you own the corporate account that leased the charter jet, Cynthia," I said smoothly, stopping two feet away from her.

"You can't do this!" Cynthia cried out, panic finally breaking through her snobbish facade. She lunged forward, her hands clawing at the air. "You ruined Julian! You ruined our family! You’re just a bitter, vengeful—"

"I’m a businesswoman protecting her assets," I interrupted, raising a single finger to silence her. "And as of ten minutes ago, my legal team filed an emergency civil injunction seizing the very offshore trust Vincent Vance used to post your bail. You aren't flying to the Caribbean, Cynthia. You’re going back to Chicago to testify before the federal grand jury."

The federal marshal stepped forward, snapping the heavy steel handcuffs onto Cynthia’s wrists with a sharp, definitive click.

"Let's go, Ms. Sterling," the marshal commanded, pulling her arm firmly.

As Cynthia was dragged screaming and kicking out of the VIP lounge toward a waiting federal transport vehicle, I stood by the window, watching the tropical rain begin to drum against the glass.

Max Thorne stepped up beside me, handing me a secure satellite phone.

"The U.S. Attorney just confirmed that Cynthia’s cooperation has triggered a complete, unredacted warrant for Vincent Vance’s primary estate in Queens," Max reported. "The syndicate is completely dismantled. It’s over, Mariana."

I took the satellite phone, looking out at the endless expanse of the Florida sky. The storm had finally cleared, leaving behind a world that was clean, honest, and entirely under my control.
