Chapter 7 - The Unravelling Truth-7

"Liam! Harrison is at the exit doors!" I screamed over the roar of the press pack, pointing my finger through the flashing camera lights toward the frosted glass corridor that led to the hotel's private parking deck.

Liam didn't hesitate. Driven by a primal, protective surge of adrenaline, he tore his arm away from my grip, his heavy boots slamming hard against the polished marble floorboards as he launched himself across the lobby. He didn't look like a quiet, sensitive valedictorian anymore; he moved with the raw, iron-willed velocity of a young man who had spent six months hauling heavy textile rolls across the concrete floors of the mill.

Dr. Harrison turned his head, his face twisting into an expression of pure, unadulterated panic as he saw the crimson-clad teenager tearing through the security perimeter toward him. He slammed his body weight against the heavy electronic exit doors, bursting out into the dark, rain-swept parking structure, his leather dress shoes skidding violently against the wet concrete as he sprinted toward his luxury sedan.

I ran right behind them, my breath coming in short, agonizing gasps, my heart hammering violently against my ribs as the freezing night air of the Oakhill shipping canal blasted my face.

By the time I cleared the exit doors, Liam had already trapped Harrison against the driver's side panel of his vehicle. He had his large hand wrapped firmly around the older man's collar, pinning him against the silver metal frame, while his other hand wrenched the glowing red phone device out of Harrison's trembling fingers.

"The override script is already running, boy!" Harrison hissed, a bitter, hollow sneer stretching across his pale face as the rain washed the sweat from his forehead. "You think you're smart because you found some old disks inside a prom dress? That mill server array houses the primary backup infrastructure for the entire county electrical grid! If you don't let me enter the abort code in the next sixty seconds... the thermal runaway script will vaporize the network core, plunging this entire town into a permanent blackout before midnight!"

"The mill server array doesn't control the grid anymore, Dr. Harrison," Liam said, his voice dropping into a freezing, clinical baritone that carried a lethal finality. He held up the red phone device, his finger clicking the central execution switch to the off position. "I redirected the primary network topology to the textile mill's automated isolation hub two weeks ago during my late-night diagnostic shifts. The files you're trying to burn... aren't inside the mill. They’re currently downloading into the FBI financial crimes division secure database terminal in Washington."

Harrison’s eyes went entirely wide, the skin around his jaw trembling with a sudden, primal terror as he realized his operational window had completely slammed shut. The political machine he thought made him an untouchable king in this town had dissolved into gray mud under the rain.

Across the concrete deck, three massive black federal SUVs with their emergency red and blue lights flashing violently tore through the security gates, their tires screaming as they swerved around the concrete barriers, skidding to a halt just ten feet from our position.

Special Agent Harris, the lead director for the federal financial crimes task force, stepped out of the lead vehicle, her service weapon raised and rock-steady, her gold badge shimmering in the flashing light.

"Dr. Harrison! Put your hands on your head and step away from the vehicle!" Agent Harris bellowed through her tactical megaphone, her voice carrying an absolute, inescapable federal authority. "Your offshore accounts in Cyprus were frozen ten minutes ago under a federal racketeering warrant. You are under arrest."
