Chapter 6 - The Raid on Kensington Manor

-1215-

The rain hammered relentlessly against the armored windows of the FBI convoy as it sped through the gates of the Kensington estate in Upper Westchester. The sprawling limestone mansion—a sprawling monument to old money, political influence, and aristocratic corruption—was lit up like a Hollywood movie set, though the grand ballroom was conspicuously dark.

Arthur sat in the back of the lead federal SUV alongside Agent Karen Vance, the heavy metal lockbox containing Clara’s records resting securely between his knees. In the passenger seat, a tech agent monitored a glowing laptop screen tracking the encrypted signals intercepted from the intruder’s tactical comm-link.

“We have confirmation that Victoria Kensington-Sterling arrived at her parents’ estate twenty minutes ago,” Agent Vance stated crisply, checking her sidearm before sliding it back into her holster. “Her father, Senator Montgomery Kensington, has already mobilized his legal team. If we don't secure the physical evidence and the server room before midnight, federal judges appointed by his administration will slap us with a jurisdictional injunction.”

“They won't have time,” Arthur said coldly, his eyes reflecting the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers ahead. “Victoria didn't just try to evict my children tonight. She sent an assassin into my home to murder us and destroy the last remnants of Clara’s memory.”

Agent Vance glanced sideways at him, her expression softening slightly. “I knew Clara, Arthur. When she vanished fifteen years ago, I knew the official report was a whitewash. I spent a decade trying to reopen her case, but the walls of wealth and political immunity were too thick to breach. Until tonight.”

“Tonight, those walls come down,” Arthur replied.

The convoy screeched to a halt on the rain-slicked cobblestone courtyard of Kensington Manor. Before the doors even fully opened, federal agents in tactical gear swarmed the perimeter, breaching the massive oak front doors with a pneumatic ram while perimeter teams secured the rear gardens and vehicle gates.

Arthur stepped out into the freezing downpour, pulling his wool coat tighter around his shoulders. He walked up the steps just as Agent Vance and her strike team flooded the grand foyer.

There, standing in the center of the sweeping marble staircase wrapped in a silk bathrobe, looking flushed, furious, and utterly cornered, was Victoria.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Victoria shrieked, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings as she descended a few steps. “My father is a United States Senator! You cannot barge into a private residence without a—!”

“Shut up, Victoria,” Arthur interrupted, his voice cutting through her tirade with a lethal, terrifying authority. He walked to the foot of the stairs, looking up at her not as a husband, but as an executioner.

Victoria stopped dead in her tracks, the color draining completely from her face as she saw the bruises on Arthur’s temple, the federal badges surrounding her, and the metal lockbox in his hands.

“Arthur... darling,” she stammered, her arrogant facade instantly fracturing into desperate, pathetic simulation of innocence. “You... you’re making a mistake. Those children—they poisoned your mind! They’re frauds—”

“The only fraud in this house is you, Victoria,” Agent Vance stepped forward, slapping a pair of cold steel handcuffs onto Victoria’s wrists with a sharp snap. “Victoria Kensington, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, obstruction of justice, financial embezzlement, and corporate fraud.”

“No! Daddy! Daddy, help me!” Victoria screamed, thrashing against the federal agents as they hauled her down the stairs toward the courtyard.

From the shadows of the upper hallway gallery stepped Senator Montgomery Kensington himself—an elderly, white-haired man in a tailored silk suit, his face contorted with cold, aristocratic fury.

“Agent Vance,” the Senator bellowed, his voice dripping with venomous entitlement. “You are making the biggest mistake of your career. I will have your badge before breakfast, and I will ensure Mr. Sterling spends the rest of his natural life in a federal penitentiary for treason against his own class.”

Arthur didn't flinch. He walked slowly up the stairs until he stood face-to-face with the powerful Senator, holding the metal lockbox up between them.

“Your class is finished, Senator,” Arthur whispered, his dark eyes burning with a righteous fury. “Now let’s talk about what happened to Clara Vance fifteen years ago.”
