Chapter 3 - The First Three Days-3

The silence that settled over the windowless master bedroom pavilion during our first three days of isolation was a heavy, suffocating thing, thick with the scent of organic leather, lavender mist, and the constant, rhythmic ticking of the digital grandfather clock near the walk-in closet block. Dominic didn't force me into a submissive domestic routine. He didn't demand that I keep my head bowed or speak only when spoken to first like the household staff at the Romano estate.

We spent seventy-two hours sitting flat behind his grand mahogany desk console, our fingers flying across a pair of mechanical keyboards as we linked my personal administrative signature tokens to his private cryptographic server network.

"They needed you out of the Romano Continental mainframe before the winter audit hit the state registry, Bianca," Dominic explained on the second night, sliding a digital tablet across the desk tiles to display a rapid, scrolling cascade of emerald-green transaction trails. "Look at the master routing sequence for the Newark terminal accounts. Your uncle Raymond didn't just conceal eight million dollars in liabilities. He and your father faked your grandfather’s digital signature tokens to launder eighty-five million dollars in public infrastructure grants through an offshore shell firm called Noraline Holdings based in Nicosia, Cyprus."

I leaned closer to the monitor, my gray eyes narrowing as I scanned the technical code lines at the base of the ledger pylon. The realization of what Dr. Elliot Ferris had executed inside that carved-oak conference room crashed through my brain with a violent force.

"The medical report," I whispered, my voice trembling with a sudden, primitive fury. "Ferris didn't find congenital damage, Dominic. He created the data brief. My father paid him to log me as infertile because under Clause Seven of the original Cross Family Trust charter... if a direct bloodline heir conceives a child while holding active administrative tokens... the entire controlling fifty-one percent voting block of the global logistics network automatically transfers to an irrevocable trust fund for that child. Unconditionally."

"Exactly," Dominic nodded, his jaw clenching tightly. "They knew that if you married Adrian Caruso and had a child, the Caruso family lawyers would use your baseline data to discover the Nicosia money laundering wires. They had to strip you of your maternal value to ensure the company’s infrastructure deeds could be quietly foreclosed and transferred straight to my syndicate's offshore accounts before the grand jury signed the indictments."

He took a slow step forward, his hand reaching out to gently trace the red mark expanding across my wrist where my cousin Anthony had grabbed me during our final argument.

"But your father calculated completely wrong, Bianca. He assumed I was a corrupt predator who wanted a sterilized piece of corporate property to clear a debt loop. He didn't realize that I’ve been hunting the architects of that Nicosia pipeline for five long years. And you just brought the master keys straight through my front door."
