Part 2: Northbridge Holdings

She hesitated.

"He controlled everything."

"My mother's medical bills."

"Our house."

"The family business."

"Even people we thought were friends."

Liam listened carefully.

"What do you mean?"

"Ethan paid for their businesses."

"He loaned them money."

"He knew everyone's secrets."

"He made sure nobody wanted to stand against him."

Liam slowly nodded.

That wasn't simply an abusive household.

It sounded like an organized system of coercion.

He asked only one more question.

"Did you keep anything?"

Audrey looked toward an old laptop resting inside the closet.

"I couldn't throw it away."

She unlocked the device.

Instead of family photographs, Liam found folders labeled only with dates.

Years of emails.

Financial statements.

Property documents.

Photographs of damaged rooms.

Medical records.

Insurance claims.

Bank transfers between companies that appeared unrelated.

Then one folder caught Liam's attention.

Northbridge Holdings

He opened it.

Inside were contracts signed by Ethan's construction company.

Invoices.

Subcontractor payments.

Wire transfers.

The numbers didn't make sense.

Payments left one company.

Circled through four others.

Then returned to Ethan's businesses disguised as consulting fees.

Classic layering.

Classic money laundering.

Liam leaned closer.

"Audrey..."

"You didn't know what this was, did you?"

She shook her head.

"I only kept everything because I thought one day someone might believe me."

Liam looked at the documents again.

"You may have saved far more than yourself."

He reached for his phone.

There was only one person he trusted with something this large.

Sophia Sterling.

Former Chief Investigator.

She answered almost immediately.

"Liam?"

"I need you to look at something."

"You sound serious."

"I am."

"What happened?"

"I think I just found evidence connecting domestic coercion to financial fraud."

Silence filled the line.

Finally Sophia spoke.

"Send me one document."

"Only one."

Liam photographed a single ledger.

Less than thirty seconds later, Sophia called back.

Her voice had completely changed.

"Where did you get that?"

"Why?"

"Because we've been looking for that account for almost six years."

Liam frowned.

"What account?"

"The one routing money through shell companies."

She took a slow breath.

"Liam..."

"I don't think Ethan Vance is acting alone."

Before Liam could answer, another notification appeared on Audrey's laptop.

A new email had just arrived.

Neither of them had touched the keyboard.

The sender contained no name.

Only an anonymous encrypted address.

The subject line read:

You Finally Opened The Wrong Folder.

Liam and Audrey exchanged a glance.

Then the second message arrived.

Tell your husband to stop searching.

A third followed almost immediately.

This isn't about Ethan anymore.

The screen suddenly went black.

Every file on the laptop disappeared.

One by one.

Folders.

Documents.

Photographs.

Years of evidence seemed to erase themselves before their eyes.

Audrey gasped.

"No..."

Liam grabbed the power cable before the system finished shutting down.

His investigator's instincts took over.

Someone wasn't merely watching them.

Someone had known exactly when they opened that folder.

Which meant one terrifying possibility.

Ethan Vance had never been the person truly in control.

And somewhere beyond the walls of the wedding venue, the real architect of the operation had just learned that Liam Carter was asking questions.
