Chapter 2 - The Nicosia Core-2

The silence that settled over the sterile clinic block was heavy, thick with the scent of hospital bleach, old paper registries, and the sudden, structural collapse of Preston’s multi-million-dollar lie. Sloane’s perfect smile hardened into a rigid, translucent sheet of pure corporate panic as my fingers tapped the digital glass pad of my terminal, initiating a remote override sequence that bypassed the hospital's public wireless network entirely.
On the wall-mounted high-definition medical monitors—the screens Preston assumed were only tracking my blood pressure and fetal activity—the monochrome heart rate waves violently flickered twice.
The monitors initialized with a rapid, dazzling burst of emerald-green financial ledger lines. Stamped at the top of every scrolling column was the official gold foil seal of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Defense Joint Logistics Command.
"Your executive assistant didn't use her consultancy dividends to clear your parents’ mortgage, Preston," I reported ruthlessly, my voice dropping into a freezing frequency that carried the absolute finality of a military tribunal. "She utilized a duplicated hardware clone of my personal administrative signature tokens—the ones I keep locked inside the Pentagon’s centralized security vaults. The eighty-five million dollars in liquid reserves she siphoned into your mother's estate registry... it didn't come from your business accounts. It was systematically extracted out of a federal infrastructure grant through an offshore shell firm called Noraline Holdings based in Nicosia, Cyprus."
Preston’s face went entirely white, the skin around his scarred jawline trembling as the true, terrifying architecture of the domestic conspiracy unmasked itself before his eyes. He turned his head slowly toward Sloane, but she couldn't offer him a defensive explanation. Her hands were shaking so violently against her designer handbag that her car keys clattered dismally against the concrete basebars of my bed.

"Kesha—sorry, Rowan..." Preston stammered, his corporate polish completely evaporating into a jagged, breathless whimper of pure primitive terror. "This... this is an impossible administrative error. You're a low-level paper clerk for the local transit bureau. You don't possess the authorization codes to monitor Cypriot escrow accounts."
"I am the Senior Logistics Officer for the United States Army Joint Command, Preston," I said, leaning back against my pillows as my twin babies kicked proudly beneath my ribs. "I am a U.S. Army Colonel. The signature tokens you and Sloane faked to launder those Cyprus wires weren't civilian business profiles. They were classified military logistics keys. And the moment Sloane pressed the 'execute' button on her tablet inside your mother's kitchen three days ago... she didn't save a house. She initialized a tier-one federal treason directive."
