Chapter 14 - The New Landscape-14-

The world was not a paradise. There were still problems, still challenges, still people who struggled and suffered. But the cycle of harvesting was broken. People were no longer being turned into batteries for the empires of the few. They were becoming the owners of their own stories.

I returned to the coast. The fishing village was the same, the rhythm of the ocean providing a constant, soothing soundtrack to my new life.

I sat on the dock, watching the boats go out, their sails catching the morning light.

I wasn't a CEO. I wasn't a warden. I wasn't even Elena.

I was just a woman who had lived, who had learned, and who was finally, truly, at peace.

A young girl, the daughter of the local boat maker, came and sat beside me.

"What are you looking at?" she asked.

"The horizon," I said.

"What's out there?"

"Possibilities," I said.

She looked out at the ocean, her eyes bright and filled with wonder. She didn't have the weight of the past on her shoulders. She didn't have the fear of the harvest.

She was the future. And for the first time, I felt like the future was in safe hands.

The harvest had been a long, dark night. But the morning had finally arrived.

And it was beautiful.
