Chapter 10 - The Collapse of the Predator

10

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. The aggressive, towering predator who had strode into the room just minutes prior now looked like a cornered animal realizing the trap had already snapped shut around his neck.

Cruz’s two security thugs shifted uncomfortably behind him, sensing the sudden, catastrophic shift in power.

“This... this is a bluff,” Cruz whispered, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to maintain a shred of bravado. “You’re trying to scare me into walking away from San Lucas Holdings. It won't work. I have connections in the federal judiciary. I can bury you in motions and appeals for the next ten years!”

“You could have,” I replied smoothly, picking up a sleek black pen and tapping it gently against the desk. “If you were dealing with a frightened homeowner or a vulnerable corporation. But you aren't. You’re dealing with the majority stakeholder of Horizonte Capital, and a woman who has spent the last week dismantling your entire criminal network brick by brick.”

I gestured toward the double doors of the boardroom.

At that exact moment, the heavy wooden doors swung open wide.

Instead of security guards or hotel staff, three men in crisp federal police uniforms, accompanied by two senior investigators from the National Banking and Securities Commission, strode into the boardroom.

Cruz whipped his head around, his face draining of all remaining color.

“Señor Victor Cruz?” the lead federal investigator asked formally, stopping beside his chair and holding out an official warrant. “You are hereby ordered to surrender yourself for immediate federal questioning and provisional detention pursuant to Docket #882-MX regarding allegations of financial fraud and racketeering.”

Cruz sat frozen in his chair, staring at the metallic gleam of the handcuffs resting in the investigator’s hand. The untouchable corporate liquidator, the man who preyed on the desperate and the distressed, was finally facing the immutable weight of the law.

“You... you can’t do this,” Cruz stammered, half-rising from his chair as his security thugs instinctively stepped forward.

“Step back or face immediate arrest for obstruction of justice,” the federal officer warned calmly, resting his hand on his holster.

Cruz’s thugs froze, backing away instantly. They weren't paid to fight federal marshals.

Two officers stepped forward, grabbing Cruz by the shoulders and forcing his hands behind his back. As the cold metal of the handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists, Cruz turned his head desperately toward me, his eyes wide with a mixture of hatred and absolute defeat.

“Who the hell are you?” Cruz hissed through clenched teeth as he was hauled toward the exit.

I didn't stand up. I simply watched him with cold, untouchable calm.

“I’m the woman who taught you not to underestimate a mother protecting her family,” I said softly.

As the federal officers dragged Victor Cruz out of the boardroom and the heavy double doors closed behind them, the room returned to a serene, breathtaking quiet.

Mateo Garza let out a long, slow breath, leaning back in his chair with a respectful smile.

“Brilliant execution, Lucía,” Mateo murmured. “The federal seizure warrants are fully secured. Cruz’s network is completely neutralized.”

“Good,” I said, closing the leather portfolio. “Now, let’s wrap up the final paperwork on the Chapultepec penthouse. It’s time to take my daughters home.”
