Part 7: Features Emily recalling the moments before all the secrets began.

Emily closed the old photograph and rested it gently on the library table.

For a long moment, she stared into the darkness beyond the windows.

Then, without warning, the memory returned.

Not the moment she fell.

Not the applause.

The moment everything had truly ended.

It had happened only seconds before she lost her balance.

Daniel had stepped away from her and walked toward Vanessa.

He had taken Vanessa's trembling hand with surprising tenderness, as if she—not the woman standing at the altar—needed reassurance.

Emily had watched in disbelief.

Daniel turned back toward her and spoke in a calm voice that carried through the silent ballroom.

"Vanessa has dreamed of wearing a wedding dress since she was a little girl."

He smiled at Vanessa before looking at Emily again.

"She wants to be a bride today."

He squeezed Vanessa's hand gently.

"Can't you let her have this one day?"

The words echoed beneath the crystal chandeliers.

Emily felt as though she had misheard him.

Daniel continued as though he were asking for the smallest favor in the world.

"Don't worry."

His voice remained impossibly gentle.

"When I marry her someday, we'll have our own wedding."

Then he looked directly into Emily's eyes.

"You're the only woman in my heart."

For several seconds, Emily couldn't speak.

The contradiction was so absurd that her mind refused to process it.

Vanessa lowered her head, tears gathering in her eyes.

"Daniel..."

She gave a shaky laugh.

"How could you do something this crazy?"

Yet she never let go of his hand.

Instead, they exchanged a smile that seemed to belong to two people sharing a private joke no one else understood.

The sight pierced Emily more deeply than any insult ever could.

Around the ballroom, confused whispers spread from table to table.

Some guests stared in disbelief.

Others avoided looking at the bride altogether.

Then Margaret Brooks rose gracefully from her seat.

She approached Emily with the same cold elegance that had always made everyone around her uncomfortable.

"You need to understand," Margaret said evenly.

"He only wants his friend to know what it feels like to be a bride."

She smiled as though her explanation settled everything.

"It's only for today."

Emily looked from Margaret...

...to Daniel...

...to Vanessa.

For the first time in her life, she understood that some people could convince themselves that cruelty was kindness if it benefited them.

Her fingers slowly curled into a fist.

Tears blurred her vision.

Not because her heart was breaking.

Because something inside her had finally become clear.

Her voice was quiet.

Steady.

Almost frighteningly calm.

"No."

She lifted her chin.

"...then today is the day I stop being your bride altogether."
