Chapter 2 - The Cryptographic Pipeline-2

The judge, an unyielding woman named Magistrate Evelyn Harris, reached for the manila file with a clinical, unblinking focus. She didn't look back at the frantic hand gestures Jason’s chief legal defender, Edward Croft, was executing toward the gallery. As her reading glasses caught the glare of the dual projection monitors, Nicole Harper took a rapid, frantic step away from Jason’s side, her designer heels skidding through a puddle of tracked rainwater as if he had suddenly become biologically poisonous.
"The medical evaluation sheets from the emergency annex are fully validated, Your Honor," Michael Reed reported ruthlessly, his fingers initializing a remote data-sharing proxy through his portable diagnostic tablet.
On the high-definition display screens lining the courtroom pillars—the monitors Jason’s marketing team had configured to render promotional slideshows of their new riverfront solar grids—the imagery violently flickered twice. The screens initialized with a rapid, scrolling cascade of emerald-green financial transactions and encrypted network diaries. Stamped at the top of every digital column was the official gold foil seal of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
"Jason Carter believed his wife was an isolated, uneducated dependents variable who spent her days arranging pillows and signing baseline household allowances," Michael Reed informed the chamber, his baritone booming through the vaulted plaster ceilings. "He had no idea that before Iris married into the Carter Group, she spent eight years functioning as the chief forensic data auditor for the State Public Corruption Division. The 'administrative defaults' Jason used to strip her of her family trust voting blocks last winter... they weren't financial errors, Your Honor. They were the direct product of a duplicated hardware clone token."

A bitter, cold smile touched my lips as I watched my husband collapse back into his leather chair, his knuckles turning an absolute, paper-white shade of bone-bleach against the table tiles.
He had spent eight months listening to Nicole’s whispers inside our estate kitchen, entirely blind to the reality that every time he swiped his master keycard at our home utility router, his entire operational history was being mirrored to a federal grand jury. They hadn't just targeted my personal capital to fund his business expansion; Jason and his younger brother, Truett Carter, had systematically laundered eighty-five million dollars in liquid municipal infrastructure grants through an offshore shell firm called Noraline Holdings, based out of an unmappable database annex in Nicosia, Cyprus.
