Chapter 5 - Storage Unit 108-5

The heavy iron double doors at the front loading dock of our suburban annex were suddenly shattered inward with a violent, hydraulic screech of tearing metal. My brother Detective Marcus Winters, followed by twenty heavily armed FBI tactical operators with their high-intensity searchlights cutting through the smoky darkness of the hallway, flooded the master bedroom suite, their rifle barrels raised and rock-steady as they secured the perimeter.
"Federal agents! Nobody move! Put your hands on your heads!" the lead tactical operator bellowed, his voice carrying an absolute, inescapable federal authority that finalized the total destruction of the Pan-Atlantic family syndicate.
Travis didn't wait to be processed under the RICO statutes. He lunged through the hidden service panel doorway behind the wardrobe base, sprinting down the narrow, unlit tracking corridor that ran parallel to the mansion's west wing toward the sub-basement disaster recovery center where the building’s centralized server banks were housed. I didn't stop to bind Rachel's tears or negotiate a corporate settlement with her defense team. I handed Noah securely into Marcus’s protective custody, pulled my travel jacket tight against my shirt sleeves, and launched my large frame down into the concrete bowels of the foundations right behind his shadow.

The interior of the subterranean sub-level beneath the logistics park was a cavernous, low-ceilinged vault of wet masonry, roaring ventilation turbines, and exposed high-voltage conduits that vibrated with a deafening, industrial hum. The air down here was hot, thick, smelling faintly of hot axle grease, diesel soot, and the sharp chemical tang of short-circuiting electrical lines running under the floorboards.
We followed the narrow, red-lit utility corridor until it opened up into a large, vaulted concrete room dominated by a single row of heavy, reinforced corrugated steel doors. Standing before the door marked Unit 108 was the master cryptographic console terminal—the central database hub for the Winters Family Trust. The screen was glowing a malicious, vibrant neon crimson overlay, its technical interface rendering a rapid cascade of delete indicators as the system's primary file partitions were systematically overwritten with random garbage data tracks.
