Chapter 12 - The Rewrite of Reality-12-

The walk back to the Waldorf was a journey through a dream. The city was transforming, the skyscrapers glowing with the golden light of the Archive, the streets becoming a maze of stories. I walked through the doors of the hotel and found it transformed—the ballroom was gone, replaced by a vast, infinite hallway lined with the iron-bound boxes.
The witness was waiting for me. She stood in the center of the hall, her face glowing with the same golden hue.
"You’re here," she said.
"I’m here," I replied, the box heavy in my hands.
"Are you ready?"
"I’m ready."
She held out her hand, and the mirror appeared in the air between us. She gestured for me to place the box inside. As the iron touched the glass, the two fused together, turning into a single, radiant sphere of white light.
"The history is no longer in the stones," she said. "It’s in the air. It’s in the breath of every person in this city. You’ve returned the stories to their owners."
I felt the light surge through me, not as a curse, but as a melody. A song of a billion lives, all singing at once. It was beautiful, terrifying, and absolutely mine.
The archive was no longer a cage. It was a witness.
And as I walked through the hall, I knew that the Whitmores were gone, the secrets were buried, and the city was finally, truly, its own story.
I looked at the sphere. It was fading, the light becoming part of the world around me.

"What happens now?" I asked.
"Now," the witness said, her voice a whisper in the wind. "We start the next chapter."
